Time and Dates
Estimate local sunrise and sunset from a date, latitude, longitude, and the UTC offset in effect at that location.
Calculating…
Use the location’s UTC offset on the chosen date, including daylight saving if applicable. This is a fixed offset, not an automatic time-zone lookup. Times are estimates, not survey or navigation data.
The Sun does not rise at the same clock time everywhere in a time zone. Longitude shifts the Sun's path across the sky, while latitude and season change how long that path stays above the horizon. Enter coordinates for the actual observation area rather than relying on your browser's location or a city name.
The selected date is a civil date at the location, not necessarily the same UTC date. A sunrise shortly after midnight in one offset may be on the previous UTC day. The calculator examines adjacent astronomical days, retains only events that fall on the entered local date, and displays them using the offset you supplied.
The calculation uses SunCalc 1.9.0 for solar events. In high latitudes, the Sun can remain above or below the horizon for a whole date, so no rise or set time exists. Near a transition, only one event may fall on the civil day. The tool reports those cases instead of replacing a missing event with midnight or another fabricated time.
SunCalc's apparent sunrise and sunset model is an estimate based on the standard solar horizon. Terrain, buildings, observer height, atmospheric conditions, and the exact definition of the horizon can change what you actually see. Display is to the minute for planning, not a claim of minute-level physical accuracy. A fixed UTC offset does not automatically adjust for daylight saving; check the location's historical or future rules separately.

| Control | What it does | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Local date at the chosen coordinates | Supported years: 1900–2100. |
| Latitude / longitude | Decimal-degree location | Valid ranges are -90 to 90 and -180 to 180. |
| UTC offset | Fixed clock offset on that date | From -12:00 to +14:00 in 15-minute steps; choose DST manually. |
| Sun events | Estimated local clock times | Unavailable events remain blank; daylight is shown only when both events are ordered within the date. |
Estimate the broad daylight window for a walk, shoot, or field task and allow for local obstruction.
Compare a destination's seasonal light with your home location using its own UTC offset.
Recognize dates where a normal sunrise or sunset may not occur.
Do not use these estimates for navigation, aviation, safety-critical work, or legal definitions of daylight. Verify with an authoritative local source.
Coordinates locate the solar event; an offset turns its UTC instant into the local clock time for the chosen date. The tool does not infer time-zone law.
Only when you enter the offset in effect on that specific date. For example, a region can have different winter and summer offsets.
At high latitudes the Sun may stay above or below the horizon all day, or a transition day may contain only one event.
No. The display rounds an astronomical estimate to minutes. Weather, refraction, terrain, and horizon height can move the observed event.
No. You type coordinates and calculations run in the browser; this tool does not request geolocation.
