Four operations
Supports addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Enter two fractions, choose an operation, and get a simplified fraction with decimal and percentage equivalents.
For addition and subtraction, use a common denominator. For multiplication, multiply numerators and denominators. For division, multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second. Reduce the final numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor.
Supports addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Simplifies the output to lowest terms.
Shows equivalent formats for comparison.
Fractions represent a numerator divided by a denominator. Choose addition or subtraction when combining or comparing quantities with a common unit; choose multiplication when taking a fraction of a fraction; choose division when asking how many units of one fractional size fit into another.
The calculator reduces the answer to lowest terms by dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor. It also reports a decimal and percentage, which can make it easier to compare the result with measurements, grades, discounts, or spreadsheet values.
Do not use zero as a denominator. Division by a fraction with a zero numerator is also undefined because it would mean dividing by zero. For mixed numbers, convert each one to an improper fraction before entering it, or calculate the whole-number and fractional portions separately.
| Input | What it means | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| First fraction | Numerator and denominator of the starting value | A denominator must not be zero. |
| Operation | The mathematical operation to apply | Division uses the reciprocal of the second fraction. |
| Second fraction | Numerator and denominator of the next value | Use the same measurement context when combining quantities. |
| Reduced result | Simplified numerator over denominator | The decimal output is an approximation when it repeats. |
Combine or divide fractional ingredient amounts.
Calculate fractional lengths, areas, or quantities.
Check arithmetic and simplified homework results.
Find a common denominator, convert each numerator as needed, add the numerators, and reduce the result.
Equivalent fractions are easier to read when numerator and denominator share no common factor other than one.
No. A denominator cannot be zero, and dividing by a zero fraction is undefined.
Convert a mixed number to an improper fraction before entering it.
