Test percentage
Calculates earned points as a share of regular possible points.
Enter correct answers, total questions, points per question, and optional extra-credit points to calculate a point-based test result.
Regular earned points = correct answers x points per question. Regular possible points = total questions x points per question. Test percentage = (regular earned points + extra credit) / regular possible points x 100.
Calculates earned points as a share of regular possible points.
Shows earned points and regular possible points separately.
Shows total questions less correct answers for a basic review.
For a test with equally valued questions, multiply the number of correct answers by the point value of each question. Divide that point total by the regular points possible, then multiply by 100. For example, 42 correct answers out of 50 questions worth two points each produces 84 regular points out of 100, or 84% before any extra credit.
Extra credit can make the earned-point total higher than the regular possible-point total, which can produce a score above 100%. This page treats extra credit as additional earned points and keeps regular possible points unchanged. An instructor may instead cap scores, add credit after weighting, or apply a different policy.
Use this calculator only when each regular question has the same point value. Tests with mixed question values, partial credit, negative marking, curved scores, or question drops should be calculated from the official point breakdown. The final course grade can also differ after category weights and instructor rounding.
| Input | What it means | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Correct answers | Regular questions answered correctly | Use the scored result after any regrading. |
| Total questions | Number of regular questions on the test | This is separate from extra-credit questions. |
| Points per question | Equal point value for each regular question | Use 1 for a simple correct-answer percentage. |
| Extra-credit points | Additional earned points outside regular possible points | Confirm whether the instructor caps or weights them differently. |
