Start with the elapsed time between clock-in and clock-out, then subtract unpaid meal or rest breaks. The result is shown in hours and minutes for readability and in decimal hours for timesheets, invoicing, and payroll systems. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes equals 7.50 decimal hours, while 7 hours 45 minutes equals 7.75.
If the end time is earlier than the start time, this calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight. It supports one continuous shift of less than 24 hours. Split shifts, paid breaks, rounding policies, and shifts longer than one day should be calculated in separate entries according to your employer policy.
