First add 273.15 to the Celsius value to move from the Celsius scale to the Kelvin absolute scale. Then multiply by 9/5 because each Rankine degree is the same size as a Fahrenheit degree, while each Kelvin interval is the same size as one Celsius degree. For example, 25 °C becomes 536.67 °R.
Rankine is an absolute thermodynamic scale used primarily in some engineering calculations that otherwise use Fahrenheit-sized intervals. Absolute zero is 0 °R, equivalent to 0 K and -273.15 °C. A physically meaningful thermodynamic temperature therefore cannot be below 0 °R.
Keep sufficient precision during intermediate calculations and round only the reported answer. Engineering work should follow the precision, uncertainty, and unit conventions of the relevant standard, instrument, or dataset.
