Current contribution
Adds each category's percentage of the final 100-point course grade.
Enter up to four category percentages and their course weights to calculate the contribution already earned toward a 100-point course grade.
Current contribution = sum of category grade x category weight / 100. Graded-category average = current contribution / entered weight x 100. Remaining weight = 100 - entered weight.
Adds each category's percentage of the final 100-point course grade.
Normalizes the entered categories to their combined weight.
Shows the unentered share of the course after listed categories.
Weighted grading gives categories different influence over a course total. Enter each category percentage, such as homework or exams, and the percentage of the full course assigned to that category. The calculator multiplies each grade by its syllabus weight and adds those contributions. A 90% exam category worth 40% contributes 36 points toward a 100-point course total.
The current contribution is deliberately different from the graded-category average. Current contribution answers how many points toward the final course grade have already been earned. The graded-category average shows performance only across the categories entered so far. Keeping both visible prevents a partial gradebook from being mistaken for a complete course grade.
Confirm that category weights total 100% in the official syllabus. Some gradebooks apply dropped assignments, replacement exams, unequal individual assignments, curves, late penalties, or unposted work. This calculator does not predict a final-exam requirement; use the Final Grade Calculator when you know the final weight and target course grade.
| Input | What it means | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Category grade | Percentage earned within one course category | Use the official category percentage, not a letter alone. |
| Category weight | That category's share of the full course grade | Use the syllabus weight, not an assumed equal split. |
| Current contribution | Points already earned toward the full course total | It can be lower than the category average before all categories are graded. |
| Remaining weight | Portion of the course not represented by entered categories | Enter future categories to reduce it toward zero. |
Translate category weights into their impact on the full course grade.
Separate current course contribution from the average of completed categories.
Compare how a changed exam or project grade affects the course total.
A weighted grade gives categories different influence; an ordinary average treats each value equally.
For a complete course calculation they normally should. This page also shows the remaining weight when the entered categories are partial.
The contribution is measured against the full 100-point course while some category weight may remain ungraded.
Use the Final Grade Calculator when you need the score required on a final to reach a target course grade.
