Elapsed time Ready
Hours : minutes : seconds . hundredths
A stopwatch measures elapsed time: the difference between when timing started and the current moment. This tool shows hours, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of a second. It is useful for an interval, a practice task, or a repeated process where you care about duration rather than a wall-clock appointment.
A lap split is the time since the previous lap; the cumulative total is the time since you started. If lap one ends at 00:00:30.00 and lap two ends at 00:01:02.50, lap two's split is 00:00:32.50. Keeping both values visible helps compare segments without losing the full-session duration.
Pause and Resume differ from Reset. Pausing stores elapsed time and ignores the break. Resuming adds later running time to that saved amount. Reset discards elapsed time and the lap list, so use it only when starting a fresh session. The timer does not automatically persist through a page reload or browser closure.
The clock uses the browser's monotonic performance timer rather than counting animation frames. If a background tab redraws less often, the visible digits may appear to jump when you return, but the elapsed calculation catches up. Display precision is one hundredth of a second; your reaction time, device performance, and browser scheduling mean it is not a certified measurement instrument.
| Control | What it does | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Start / Pause / Resume | Runs or freezes the elapsed timer | A pause does not count toward elapsed time. |
| Lap | Records the current split and total | Available only while running. |
| Reset | Clears time and all recorded laps | This cannot be undone after reset. |
| Time display | Shows HH:MM:SS.hh | Hundredths are display precision, not guaranteed accuracy. |
Track repeated sets or rest periods and compare lap splits across a session.
Measure one focused task without confusing elapsed time with the time of day.
Compare how long repeated steps take while retaining the overall total.
Keep the page open. Reloading or closing it ends the current session, and the stopwatch is not a certified timer for scientific or legal use.
Elapsed time is based on the browser's clock, so it catches up when you return even if the display refreshed less often in the background.
A lap is time since the previous lap. Total time is cumulative time since Start, excluding any paused periods.
No. The timer and lap list are held in the open page only; a reload starts a fresh session.
It displays hundredths of a second, but actual timing accuracy depends on your browser, device, input latency, and reaction time.
