Convert an ingredient weight to US tablespoons using its measured grams-per-tablespoon value, not an assumed universal factor.
Do not use 15 g for every ingredient. Calculations and controls run in this browser tab.
Grams measure mass while tablespoons measure volume. There is no single grams-to-tablespoons factor that works for flour, sugar, oil and water. Divide ingredient mass by the grams that one tablespoon of the same ingredient holds: tablespoons = grams ÷ grams per tablespoon. At an illustrative 15 g per tablespoon, 30 g is 2 tablespoons. Change that factor when the ingredient or packing method changes.
The USDA food-buying guide lists a US tablespoon at approximately 14.79 mL and a teaspoon at approximately 4.93 mL. Volume ratios are therefore stable, but mass depends on density and how a dry ingredient is filled. A packed spoon of brown sugar can weigh more than a loose spoon of flour. For baking precision, weighing the actual ingredient is preferable to spoon conversion.
This tool does not supply a verified ingredient database. Use a product label, tested recipe, or your own scale to establish grams per tablespoon. A level measuring spoon, heaped household spoon and liquid spoon can differ. Temperature can also affect liquid volume. Results are kitchen estimates rather than nutritional or laboratory measurements.
Example: 30 g ÷ 15 g per tablespoon = 2 US tablespoons for the illustrative ingredient.
Use the sample inputs above to reproduce the example. Results display practical rounded values; real measurements and agreements can involve more uncertainty than the arithmetic.
It is 2 tablespoons only when the ingredient weighs 15 g per tablespoon.
No. One is mass and one is volume; the ingredient factor connects them.
Three US teaspoons make one US tablespoon by volume.
A calibrated level measuring spoon is more consistent.
