the formulas originate from fahrenheit's historical definition and metric standardization:

  • fahrenheit's original scale set water's freezing point at 32℉ and boiling point at 212℉ (180-degree interval)
  • celsius uses a 100-degree interval between water's freezing (0℃) and boiling (100℃) points
  • conversion ratio: 1℃ = 1.8℉ (9/5) + offset (32℉) → ℉ = ℃×9/5 + 32
